The idea
The idea is deliberately simple. Bring the books you have been meaning to read and give them more room than ordinary life usually allows.
There could be long quiet periods, shared meals, coastal walks and optional gentle movement, built around protected time to read rather than reading squeezed into whatever time is left over.
Why Sark might suit it
Sark is small enough to move around on foot or by bicycle, and there are no private cars. A simple pattern fits easily here: read for a while, walk to the coast, come back, eat together, read again.
What would be different
The regular Sark Soul retreat already leaves unscheduled time in the day. A reading edition would reduce the programme further, with longer protected stretches set aside for reading itself.
What would stay
It would still be Sark Soul: a small group, shared vegetarian meals, time outdoors and optional movement rather than a week spent entirely indoors.
What we have not decided
- Whether the reading periods should be mostly silent or simply unstructured.
- Whether there should be any hosted book discussion at all.
- Whether people would prefer to bring their own reading list or have an optional shared theme.
Not yet bookable
This is an idea we are testing, not part of the existing retreat offer.
