How do I get to Sark?
There is no airport on Sark. Guests travel to Guernsey by flight or ferry from the UK, then cross with Sark Shipping, about 45 minutes. Our Getting to Sark guide covers every step.
Are there cars on Sark?
Sark is car-free, for residents and visitors alike, though tractors do the island's heavy work. Bicycles, horse-drawn carriages and your own feet do the rest.
Can you stay overnight on Sark?
Yes. Staying overnight gives you the lanes, coast and night sky at their best, after the last day boat has gone.
When is the best time for stargazing?
Clear nights with little moonlight offer the best conditions. In 2011, Sark became the world's first Dark Sky Island.

Money on the island
Sark uses the Guernsey Pound, accepted alongside British Pounds, and the Euro is taken in a number of places. There is no cash machine on the island, though several shops and cafes offer cashback with a debit card purchase, usually with a minimum spend of £5.
Phone signal and wifi
There is mobile signal and wifi on Sark. Coverage is reliable around the village but patchy on the western cliffs, most beaches, much of Little Sark and on the cliff paths.
Health and travel insurance
Sark has a resident doctor and a Medical Centre, with surgeries held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings by appointment. Sark sits outside the NHS, and medical transfers to Guernsey are not covered by the UK reciprocal health arrangement, so travel insurance is essential.
Bicycle hire
Sark has four cycle hire outlets in the village area, offering electric bikes and regular pushbikes in a range of frame sizes. Bicycles must be dismounted and walked across La Coupee.
Island events
Sark keeps its own calendar: the Harbour Carnival, a Lawnmower Race, a Foraging Weekend, the Church Fete and Starfest. Dates move year to year, so check locally when you arrive or ask us before you travel.
Why stay overnight
Sark changes after the last ferry leaves
Walking is built into the day. The coast is never far away. At night, the island goes dark enough for the Milky Way to appear across the sky. Wild swimming and tidal pools are shaped by the weather and tide, so the best place changes from day to day, and the lanes are walked, cycled or ridden by horse-drawn carriage rather than built around private cars.
The island's wildlife is counted, and the counts are public: plants, birds, butterflies, moths and the Gouliot Caves marine list.
