Artist and Creative Retreat
Time to make something, with Sark supplying the change of scene rather than a packed timetable.
The idea
This could be a retreat for people who want concentrated time for drawing, painting, photography, writing or another creative practice.
The open question is whether people want a taught art retreat, a mostly self-directed creative week, or something between the two.
Why Sark might suit it
Varied material sits at close range on Sark: cliffs, lanes, old stone, small harbours, dark skies, wildflowers and changing weather, all on an island that can be crossed without a car.
What would be different
The regular retreat makes room for reflection and time outdoors. A creative edition would protect larger blocks for making, and any teaching would serve that rather than filling the week.
What would stay
Shared meals, gentle movement and time outside would still matter. This would not need to become an intensive residential art course to justify itself.
What we have not decided
- Whether it should be taught, self-directed or mixed.
- Whether one discipline should lead the week or several should be welcome.
- What level of materials, studio space or specialist equipment would genuinely be needed.

I'd consider this
Our regular Sark Soul retreat is not an experiment. See the dates, the week and what is included.
