Is there an airport on Sark?

14 July 2026 路 Nadia

There is no airport on Sark and no landing strip. Visitors arrive by sea.

Where do you fly instead?

For most visitors, the answer is Guernsey.

Aurigny flies to Guernsey from Gatwick and several other UK airports. British Airways also serves Guernsey from Heathrow and Gatwick. The flight from London takes about an hour.

From Guernsey, you travel to St Peter Port harbour and take the Isle of Sark Shipping passenger ferry. The crossing takes about forty-five minutes and lands at Maseline Harbour on Sark.

The ferry timetable changes through the year, so plan the journey backwards. Check which Sark boat you can catch first, then choose the flight that gives you enough time to reach the harbour.

Planning the trip? Our free How to Get to Sark guide covers the ferry, the connections, the luggage system and what to pack.

Why the last part is by boat

Sark is around three and a half miles long and one and a half miles wide. It is car free, with unpaved lanes, tracks and paths rather than a road network built around traffic.

An airport belongs to a different kind of island.

For forty-five minutes, you leave your worries and the modern world behind.

What happens when you arrive?

The ferry lands at Maseline Harbour, completed after the Second World War once the Occupation had interrupted its construction, and formally opened by the Duke of Edinburgh, with Princess Elizabeth, on 23 June 1949. It is still the only way in.

Your luggage is lifted from the boat and passed to the island carters, who deliver it to wherever you are staying. You can take the toast rack up the steep hill from the harbour or walk.

Our How to Get to Sark guide explains the full journey through Guernsey, how much connection time to allow, what happens to your luggage and what to pack.
