Getting to Sark from Jersey

Yes, you can travel directly from Jersey to Sark in summer.

The only difficulty is finding a day when the boat runs.

Check the sailing before anything else

The passenger ferry leaves St Helier and takes about eighty minutes. It runs several times a week from April to September, but not every day.

The route through Guernsey runs year round. The direct Jersey boat is another option when timings align.

How to spend one day on Sark

Sark looks small enough to think you could see everything before the return boat.

It is around three and a half miles long, but the coastline folds into 40 miles of bays, headlands, pools and paths.

For a first visit, one coherent day is to head south towards La Coupée, the narrow isthmus joining Sark and Little Sark, with long drops on both sides. Continue into Little Sark if time allows, then turn back without trying to add the north of the island as well.

The Venus Pool can be part of that day only when the tide suits. It is reached by a faint path and a rock scramble, cannot be seen from above, and is accessible for about two hours either side of low water. Proper shoes are essential.

Read the return time first

The Jersey service is designed around day visits, with the outward and return sailings determining how long you have ashore.

A day is enough to cross La Coupée, stop for lunch and see why the island is harder to measure than it appears.
