The Sark JournalYoga is part of the week, not the reason you have to come
Yoga matters at Sark Soul.
But it is not the whole reason you have to come.
That distinction matters because many people who need a restorative break rule themselves out of retreats before they have properly considered one.
They think they are not flexible enough, not experienced enough or not interested in spending an entire holiday on a yoga mat.
None of those things should prevent you from joining.
Yoga supports the week
Morning and evening practice mark the start and the close of each day.
In the morning, movement helps you arrive in your body before breakfast and the island day ahead. In the evening, it helps the pace settle before dinner and rest.
The practice supports the wider experience of Sark, food, walking, an optional massage, conversation and time alone.
It does not compete with them.
You do not need experience
The yoga is mixed level.
That means a first-time guest and someone with years of practice should both be given useful options. A pose is not a destination everyone must reach in the same way.
Our teachers guide people clearly and attentively, with the emphasis on how the movement feels rather than how it looks.
Flexibility is not an entry requirement
Yoga is not reserved for people who can already perform it impressively.
Stiffness, tiredness and unfamiliarity are ordinary starting points. Props, adjustments and rest all belong in a sensible practice.
The retreat is not a place where your body is compared with somebody else鈥檚.
You are not expected to practise all day
A Sark Soul retreat is not an intensive training course.
Yoga frames parts of the day. The middle of the day belongs to the island, rest, an optional massage and whatever the conditions allow.
There should be time to walk, eat, talk, sleep, swim when appropriate or simply do less.
Rest is a valid choice
There may be times when rest is more useful than another session.
Choosing that should not feel like failure. The purpose of the week is restoration, not perfect attendance.
Core arrangements still give the group fixed points in common, but participation is not treated as a performance.
The reason to come is larger
You might be drawn by yoga.
You might be drawn by Sark, the option of a massage, sea air, quiet, good food or the relief of having someone else take care of the week.
Most likely, it is the combination that makes the experience work.
Yoga is one of Nadia鈥檚 strongest ways of helping guests return to their bodies. Sark changes the pace around them. The retreat brings those things together.
You do not need to arrive as a yoga person, only ready to experience the week at your own level.
