What you eat on a Sark Soul retreat

Vegetarian, cooked by a private chef, eaten together, and why cooked-for meals matter more when you are tired

9 June 2026 · Sark Soul Island Retreats

Every meal on the retreat is vegetarian, cooked by a private chef, and eaten together, family style. The week is all inclusive, so every one of those meals is already part of it: nothing to book, nothing to shop for, nothing to plan. For five nights, no meal is your job.

If you have been searching for a vegetarian retreat, that is the short answer. The longer answer is about why the cooking being done for you matters as much as what is on the plate.

Where the meals sit in the day

The retreat runs to a light schedule. Morning yoga starts the day early, and breakfast follows the practice. The middle of the day and the afternoon are free. An evening practice and dinner, included and prepared for you, close the day.

We do not publish a menu, and this article will not invent one. What we can pass on is what one guest said after the last retreat:

“The food, and the chefs were fabulous. Everything was brilliantly organised. The location is stunning. Sark is such a beautiful place. I had the most wonderful time.”

Why cooked-for meals matter when you are tired

Feeding yourself is a string of decisions. What to buy, what to cook, when to eat, whether tonight’s plan still works now the day has gone differently. None of those choices is heavy on its own, but choice is enjoyable when you have energy and becomes work when you are depleted, a point Why some holidays leave you more tired makes in full.

The research on recovering from work stress keeps returning to one finding, psychological detachment: genuinely switching off from obligations rather than just being physically away from them. What a week can and cannot do for burnout covers that evidence honestly, including the part about benefits fading. Meals cooked for you protect detachment in a small, daily way: a dinner you did not plan, shop for or cook is one less obligation to switch back on.

Sark itself removes another layer. The island is car free for everyone, residents and visitors alike, so dinner is never something you drive to, and slow travel here is simply how the island works. The retreat adds the cooking, the one task you would still have to do yourself, even on a slow island.

One table

Family style means shared dishes at one table, not separate orders from a menu. Dinner is with the group, and the evening meal is where the day’s separate afternoons, a walk, a swim, time alone, come back together.

If you are vegan, or you have an allergy

The shared meals are vegetarian. If you are vegan, that is worth raising before booking, so the chef can confirm what can be accommodated safely.

The same goes for any dietary requirement or allergy: raise it before booking. The order matters: the conversation happens before you commit, not after you arrive, and no diet is promised sight unseen, because a promise the chef has not confirmed would not be worth having. Tell us what you need, and you will have a straight answer before you decide.

The island’s food is part of the week too

The retreat’s meals are included, but the free afternoons are yours, and Sark’s own food is worth walking to: restaurants and pubs around the Avenue, and tea gardens partway along the cliff paths. Eating and drinking on Sark is the full picture.

What the week includes beyond the table, the practice, the walks, the wild swimming and the night at the Sark Observatory, is on the retreat page. June and September 2027 retreats are coming soon, and the waitlist hears the dates first.
